2. Two tuners... who cares, when they can't record HDTV. And with Tivo getting rid of their lifetime membership, I think they do indeed have a dud of a product. I'm sticking with my cable DVR which has two HD tuners in it.

3. Two tuners, but one of them can't record digital cable stations? And no HD? Besides the niftiness of TiVO's interface, why should I downgrade from my cable system's DVR?

5. Unless I'm missing something, the second tuner in the tivo is more or less useless if you have cable. Assuming I hooked up a second cable box to the second tuner (at a cost of like $12/month to the cable company.. ie, forget it!) would the TiVo even control it?

7. Okay. . . This is news? Guess what - this isn't any kind of reliable poll. There are no conclusions to draw. It is utterly insignficant.

Web Polls overall are really pointless at drawing conclusions - isntead it is just for fun. Don't treat it or think of it as more.

Anyway - Dual Tivo tuner creates buzz, probally bumps demand a little bit. I don't think Dual Tivo is tivo's answer regardless.

8. No doubt, I'm waiting for the Series 3. I've actually stayed away from HD since I can't get my tivos to record it yet. I don't know why they aren't focusing on the HD box. I would buy it in a second and I'd pay over $500 for it.

9. I'm waiting for the series 3. But if I didn't already have two series IIs already, I'd consider buying this.

And the two-tuner option isn't useless at all, even if you have digital cable. What you do is use a splitter _before_ your digital cable box. One side you feed to the digital cable box, and then to tivo, the other side you feed directly to tivo bypassing the cable box. The side w/o the digital cable box will still receive basic cable channels. So you can record 1 basic-cable channel and one digital cable channel at the same time. (This works for Comcast digital cable, anyway)

10. I'd rather wait for the S3. The HD Tivo is my milestone for upgrading from my venerable 32" Toshiba CRT (working flawlessly since 1997) to a nice HD screen (most likely not LCD or plasma). I assume the S3 allows for two cable boxes and two digital signals to record at the same time.

Series 3 is rumored to have 2 CableCard slots, thus meaning no STB is needed, even for pay channels.

The only reason you would need a STB is for on-demand/PPV type programs in most scenarios.

14. I posted this earlier, so I apologize for posting it again, but it's the same topic....

I think this is pathetic by TiVo. The Series-2 has been out for four+ years. What technology company can get away with using the same (trailing) technology for 4 years straight?

What have been their upgrades? An ability to buy fandango tickets? That's what took 4 years? An Ability to transfer shows at ridiculously slow speeds?

They have just started supporting 802.11g - when 802.11n is just around the corner - when will 802.11n be supported 2042? They have yet to develop an HD box. Or one with CableCard ? or with a TRUE dual tuner!! They're biggest supporters are early-adopters. They have alienated people like us. I have had an HDTV for two years. And the worst part about my HDTV is how my TiVo looks on it.

I love TiVo - that's why I haven't bought any other competitor - but I think they're cooked! They are killing themselves! They have given away their market by being such a slow mover.

Instead of having a great product suite to offer customers - they forced customers to choose! Do you go with good software and bad hardware or good hardware with bad software. Well I'm leaning towards the latter.

If TiVo had made great HW coupled with their great SW, they would be the iPod of this market.
Instead, they?re like Apple in the 80s/90s ? they invented all the great stuff but let Microsoft have all the success. They don't know what to do to be successful!!

15. There's a great hands-on review of the DT-TiVo at Gizmodo. It basically confirms all the criticisms and concerns people are mentioning on this site.

All I could recommend was getting the HUMAX DVD burning TiVo. Not a rousing advertisement for the DT.

Sure, it has an Ethernet port and sure the little wireless adapter they sent us to play with is cool-looking, but I can't recommend this as an upgrade for current TiVo users nor can I recommend this to a first-time TiVo user?the analog RF cable tuner is just not useful enough to consider this an upgrade.

TiVo users are a long-suffering and patient lot. They accept buggy, annoying installs and land-line dial-up setups. They play with TV inputs so they can record one show and watch another at the same time. They change cable channels so they can watch HD content and record it at the same time. They work around TiVo's many limitations and still stand by the product, like a battered hillbilly yelling at the police on Cops to leave her man be, he wouldn't hurt nobody!

Give us Series 3 or give us death. For many?far too many, in fact?the cable company's HD-ready DVR is getting more and more tempting, and that is a sad, sad fact...."

16. I would be interested in the DT TiVo, but since I don't have cable it's usless to me as it does not have OTA tuners. I am waiting for the S3 so I can record HDTV from OTA broadcast channels
